DJI Fly App Update: Improved Camera Settings, New Mavic 3 Features
The DJI Fly app received a significant update today that you’ll want to get if you’re A) a Mavic 3 drone owner or B) a power user who finds the existing UI extremely painful when customizing camera settings.
DJI has discontinued the Fly app version 1.5.8 and the Mavic 3 aircraft firmware v01.00.0500. If you a DJI Mavic 3 owner, These contain the long-awaited Quick Shots, panorama mode, QuickTransfer, continuous shooting, the colour display wizard for D-Log and much more.
Suffice it to say that with these upgrades, the already impressive Mavic 3 becomes a true aerodynamic powerhouse. And if you’ve been waiting because of a lack of core features, now is an excellent time to grab DJI’s best drone.
However, the latest improvements to the Fly app aren’t just limited to the Mavic 3’s new features. Application is a nuisance. The sheer number of taps required struggling with the small icons in the lower right corner of the screen, especially when trying to adjust your flight time and get the necessary settings before shooting—a problem for many power users.
The latest update to the Fly app efforts to resolve this issue by simplifying the camera settings UI. With this small but subtle improvement, access to parameters like ISO, shutter rapidity and white balance becomes much better – and it’s a step closer to the more professional, user-oriented DJI Go app.
DJI Mavic 3 Review
DJI’s latest drone, the Mavic 3, is the sequel to two 2018 models, the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. This quadcopter has a dual-lens camera for stunning panoramic views and a slightly less impressive telephoto camera for closer perspectives. It also has ambitious technology, including a FourThirds camera with Hasselblad colour science and omnidirectional sensors for obstacle avoidance. A basic template is a severe photography and video tool capable of capturing 5.1K and raw still images. However, cinematographers should consider the Cine edition, which adds ProRes footage and more internal storage. If you need all these features and can justify its cost, the Mavic 3 certainly won’t disappoint. That said, we still recommend the DJI Mavic Air 2 and Air 2S to anyone on a tighter budget.
The DJI Mavic 3 is a small folding drone with a Hasselblad camera that captures stunning video and stills, but you need to step up to the Cine version for ProRes recording.
